SMART's Computer-Lab Instruction Software Now Available in Japanese

Japanese version of SynchronEyes™ software offers flexible user interface and enhanced features

Calgary, AB --- March 14, 2002 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces a Japanese version of SynchronEyes 2.0 computer-lab instruction software, compatible with the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. SynchronEyes software uses a TCP/IP network to create an enriched learning environment where up to 80 workstations can be monitored and controlled from a single computer. Using SynchronEyes software, an instructor can customize thumbnail images of student screens, view and respond to student questions from his desktop and create shortcuts to commonly used applications. SynchronEyes software is also available in English and Spanish.

"Using SynchronEyes software, an instructor can create an interactive environment where students are focused, involved and actively learning," says Nancy Knowlton, president and COO of SMART Technologies Inc. "Offering this award-winning computer-lab instruction software in Japanese is part of SMART's commitment to our international customer base."

Key Features
Monitor – With thumbnail views of all student screens on his computer, a teacher can monitor each student's activity. He can also adjust the size and order of the thumbnail images.

Respond – When a student sends a question, a hand-up icon appears over that student's thumbnail image on the teacher's desktop. The teacher can view the question and type a response or click on the thumbnail image to work through the problem with the student.

Assist – A teacher can click on a thumbnail image to see a full-screen view of any student's desktop, then take control of the student's mouse and keyboard to provide one-to-one instruction.

Show – An instructor can broadcast his screen or any student's screen to the entire class to provide an up-close view of material that students can follow easily.

Focus – With the Lock function, a teacher can blank all students' screens and disable mice and keyboards. Once attention is secured, the instructor can use a SMART Board interactive whiteboard to teach from the front of the class.
